RIP to K9 Kir

K9 Kir with Deputy Suzanne Fisher

We just heard about the loss of another of our retired K9s. K9 Kir passed on January 11th, 2023. Our condolences to the Fisher family on this sad event. This statement is from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office grieves the passing of retired K9 Kir. Kir was born on March 21, 2011, in the Czech Republic and was paired with his partner Deputy Suzanne Fisher in 2013.

Kir was certified in tracking, article detection, narcotics and patrol before being assigned to the Washoe County Detention Facility, the Second Judicial District Court and the Reno Justice Court. Kir retired in 2016 and was named the 1st official “spokesdog” of Kinetic Dog Food later that year.

Kir spent most of his retirement lounging in any body of water he could get into, playing in the snow and riding in “his” side by side. Kir never stopped working – he continued to protect his family and keep guard until his final breath.

K9 Kir passed away on January 11, 2023, with his family beside him. His family will remember him as loyal, protective, adventurous and the BEST boy there ever was.

RIP to K9 Akim

We’re sad to report the passing of K9 Akim. He was a beautiful and loved K9. This statement from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office speaks for all of us in K9 Partners.

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office grieves the passing of retired K9 Akim. K9 Akim passed away with friends and family by his side at home yesterday. He will always be remembered for his “crazy” energy and soft-hearted disposition.

Sheriff Balaam expressed, “K9 Akim was loyal and courageous; his dedication to protecting our community will never be forgotten. We honor his service, and he will be greatly missed.”

K9 Akim with Chief Deputy Solferino in 2012

K9 Akim was born in Prague, Czech Republic, on August 17, 2010. He and handler Corey Solferino were paired together on January 23, 2012, at the prestigious Vohn Liche Kennels in Denver, Indiana. Akim was certified in patrol, narcotics, article detection, and tracking. K9 Akim and Corey worked together as part of the HIDTA task force until his promotion to Sergeant on August 3, 2015.

Akim was able to enjoy many years of retirement with his family poolside in the backyard, under the covered patio, or chasing his brother and sister French Bulldogs around the block

.“To say he will be missed is an understatement. We will miss our Keemers indefinitely,” shared Chief Deputy Corey Solferino and family.

The WCSO family extends heartfelt condolences to the Solferino family. Rest easy, K9 Akim.

Two of the K9s were on hand to greet them and help with the shopping. People got to meet K9 Ava and K9 Odin. Thanks to Wal Mart for their participation in this annual program.

Scheels Meet and Greet Next Saturday!

Want a chance to see and meet one of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9s up close and personal? Our dogs are socialized and love to meet people. At this time, we don’t know which K9s will be there as their appearance is subject to availability based on work needs.

K9 Jett meets people at Barks and Badges last spring.

K9 Partners will have a table at Scheels on November 12th and will have tee shirts, mugs, and calendars available for set donations. Calendars are also available from Scheels at their Information desk. We’ll be there from 10 am to 2 pm.

So come out and meet our dogs, get some photos, pick up a new calendar or two and chat with their Deputy partners.

Many thanks to Scheels at the Legends Outlets for hosting this Meet and Greet. K9 Partners and the K9 unit appreciate their support.

Great Fun at Consign Furniture

K9 Partners was delighted to be asked to be at Consign Furniture’s first-ever Trunk ‘n’ Treat event! Two Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Teams joined us to give the little trick or treaters a chance to meet Odin and Ava. The dogs were a big hit!

Isn’t this a great sunset shot? All photos from this event were taken by Diana Lee.

The costumes were adorable, scary, and so creative! A DJ kept the music going and the kids dancing. Food and craft vendors filled the parking lot! We had a great time handing out candy, trading cards, and stickers. Here’s a few photos from the evening’s event.
