K9 Unit Challenge 2022

From the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

Members of the WCSO K9 Unit along with other Northern Nevada K9 unit teams competed in the 2022 Inaugural K9 Unit Challenge in Carson City today. The competition consisted of three courses: Detection, Patrol, and Obstacle/Agility. The goal of this competition is for the different agencies to have a chance to work with each other and give the community a glimpse of what these K9s and their handlers are capable of doing.

The WCSO was represented by Deputy Harris with K9 Ava, Deputy Evans with K9 Odin, and Deputy Lynch with K9 Ace. Join us in congratulating Deputy Harris and K9 Ava for winning 1st place in the Obstacle/Agility course, 3rd place in Patrol, and 2nd place overall.

Groundbreaking for Liberty Dogs Campus

From the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page:

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam and members of the WCSO K9 Unit recently attended the groundbreaking of the new Liberty Dogs Campus.

The facility, which will be constructed south of downtown Damonte Ranch in Reno, will provide some of our nation’s veterans with a chance to lead a more fulfilling and independent life with the companionship of a service dog.

Because we all know how much help a dog can be!
The Liberty Dogs program is the creation of Northern Nevada residents Dave and Cheryl Duffield and is financially supported by the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation.

Many Thanks to Consign Furniture

This past Wednesday, K9 Partners and several of the Washoe County K9 Teams met at Consign Furniture to receive a donation to K9 Partners. Consign is one of our consistent donors and we are so grateful for their continued support. Even with the rough times we have all gone through over the past two-and-a-half years, support for the K9s have enabled K9 Partners to continue to assist with necessary equipment and training to keep our communities safe. Thank you so much.

Here’s a few pictures from Wednesday:

Meet & Greet at Consign Furniture

Meet and Greet poster with details.

Want to meet one or two of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9s along with their deputies? Then plan on dropping by Consign Furniture between 10 am and noon on Saturday, September 10th. Until the event, we don’t know which dogs will be available for this opportunity, but they are all gorgeous animals and are used to being socialized.

The deputies will be happy to answer any questions you might have about the dogs and how they are used. At the same time, you might be able to pick up a copy of the 2023 K9 Partners calendar from the K9 Partners table for a $20 donation. We will also have K9 mugs with the dog’s pictures and statistics available for a $10 donation.

Here’s a sneak peak at the new calendar. A full reveal will be coming up in about two weeks. It’s very exciting with great photos!

All donations will go to K9 Partners to be used for providing for the equipment and training for the dog teams.

Great Barks and Badges Event Last Week!

Whew! We are finally recovering from last week’s Barks and Badges happening at Bartley Ranch. Were you there? Did you have a great time? Well, those of us in K9 Partners and our terrific volunteers certainly enjoyed meeting people and seeing our Washoe Country K9s go through their skills. Many thanks to Noah Bond from KOLO News, who announced our demonstrations and raffles! Greatly appreciated.

Thanks to all our donors for making this event possible and to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and the CERT and Wells Fargo volunteers. Thank you to all the vendors, first responders, and services who came out to participate and to all of our attendees. We couldn’t do it without you!

We do have pictures taken by Diana Lee, our vice president, and we’re happy to share some of those with you.
