K9 Kyago Retires

Photo by Mike Lucido, Eighty8 Studios

01/03/24- Today, K9 Kyago ended his service with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office after almost 8 years as Deputy Dunham’s partner.

We are going to miss you, Kyago! But we are so happy to wish you a very happy retirement. You have earned a promotion to the position of “King of the Couch”! Such a Good Boy!

The following is from the WCSO’s Facebook page:

Today, Sheriff Balaam hosted a ceremony for the retirement of K9 Kyago after seven years of loyal service to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and our community.
In 2016, K9 Kyago was partnered with Deputy Dunham and completed his training at Vohne Liche Kennels in Indiana before joining the WCSO. Kyago served as a dual-purpose K9, trained in narcotics detection, subject apprehension, and tracking.
Kyago had a tremendous career serving in both the patrol division and on the Northern Nevada Interdiction Task Force alongside his partner, Deputy Dunham.
Kyago played a crucial role in removing millions of dollars worth of illicit narcotics from our streets and, with his social disposition, was always a crowd favorite at community events.
“Our K9s not only help to ensure the safety of our community, but they are beloved members of our office who bring our community together,” said Sheriff Balaam. “On behalf of the entire Sheriff’s Office, thank you for your dedicated service, Kyago! Enjoy your well-earned retirement with your family.”

Many Thanks to Scheels!

We are so grateful for the support we receive from Scheels at Legends and for hosting our November Meet and Greet at their store. I’m a little late in getting the photos posted from this year’s event. Thanks so much to Crystal Powell from WCSO for taking these fabulous pictures and sending them to us.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Santa Is Coming!

Actually, however you celebrate this holiday season, we’re wishing you the best of the holidays, be it Yule, Hannukah, Kwanza, or Christmas. There are so many traditions but most all of them hope for a peaceful and loving holiday.

For us at K9 Partners, we’re going to celebrate the 12 days of Christmas with our K9s! Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.

Great Fun at Consign Furniture

Many thanks to Consign Furniture for hosting a K9 Meet and Greet last Friday and for inviting us to participate in their Trunk or Treat event! We had a great time meeting people and seeing everyone in their costumes. Some were so imaginative. Consign Furniture is one of our deeply appreciated supporters and also an outlet for our calendars and mugs.

Here’s a few pictures from the Meet and Greet from 3 pm to 5 pm. Click on each image to see the larger photo.

Here are photos from the Trunk or Treat: Again, click for the larger image.

K9 Unit Challenge in Carson City

Over the weekend, a few of us went to Carson City to watch our Washoe County K9s compete against other K9 units in Northern Nevada. It was a warm day and everyone was in good spirits, especially our dogs. Here’s the report from the Sheriff’s Office along with some photos of the day.

Deputy Grulli and K9 Jett crush this door window obstacle.

Five of our Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 teams and ten other Northern Nevada K9 units participated in today’s second annual K9 Unit Challenge at Fuji Park in Carson City.

The competition consisted of three challenges: detection, patrol, and obstacle/agility, where Deputy Grulli and K9 Jett, Deputy Evans and K9 Odin, Deputy Lynch and K9 Ace, Deputy Tittensor and K9 Brutus, and Deputy Locke with K9 Otto showcased their skills.

The competition provided a great opportunity for multiple agencies to come together, collaborate, and gain knowledge from one another while exhibiting the exceptional abilities of the region’s K9s and their handlers to the community.

Join us in congratulating Deputy Tittensor and K9 Brutus for a 3rd place finish in narcotics detection!
