Meet & Greet at Scheels This Saturday!

Hey, K9 lovers! A few of our Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9s will be at the Scheels store at Legends on Saturday, November 16 to greet all the lovely people who want to meet them. Rumor has it our newest K9 Maggie will be there.

K9 Partners will be set up with some merchandise including shirts, mugs, and our 2025 calendar right off the presses. This is the first opportunity to get a copy. Come say hi and meet the dogs!

Meet the Newest K9 Team!

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 team has a new member. Say hello to K9 Maggie and Deputy Smith! K9 Maggie is a single-purpose dog and she specializes in sniffing out explosives.

From the WCSO Press Release:

A Short Hair Pointer, K9 Maggie hails from the Netherlands. After a multi-stage process that prepares a handler and a K9 Unit to work as a cohesive team, she was selected and paired with Deputy Smith. Deputy Smith has worked at the Sheriff’s Office for two years and is currently assigned to the detention facility.

“Congratulations to Deputy Smith and K9 Maggie on successfully completing the Nevada POST certification. K9 Maggie’s service will be a terrific benefit to our region, and we are excited to watch her work in both the detention facility and in the field. I look forward to the great things this partnership will do in serving and protecting Washoe County. Thank you, as well, to @washoecountyk9partners for their generous donation and for bringing Maggie to our office.” – Sheriff Darin Balaam

Welcome and Happy Birthday to…

… K9 Bodie!

We are thrilled to announce the newest members of our K9 Unit!! Please give a warm welcome to K9 Bodie and his partner Deputy Baker! K9 Bodie turned 2 years old on January 4th! Happy Belated Birthday Bodie! 🎉🎂🎈🐾🎁

Bodie is a Czech Shepherd and was born in The Czech Republic. He is a dual purpose K9, trained for both patrol and narcotics. We can’t wait to see what an amazing job this new K9 Team will do for our community! ❤

Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam and the WCSO family are pleased to introduce the newest member of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. Please welcome K9 Bodie!

K9 Bodie is a Czech Shepherd who was born on January 4th, 2022. After finishing his training at the renowned Vohne Liche Kennels, Bodie is now certified as a dual-purpose K9, trained in narcotics detection, apprehension, and tracking. K9 Bodie will serve our community alongside his partner, Deputy Tyler Baker.

“K9 Bodie has a friendly disposition and high drive. He will be a valuable addition to our K9 unit, helping to ensure the safety of our community and aiding in our ongoing efforts to combat illicit narcotics in our region, including fentanyl,” said Sheriff Balaam. “A special thanks to our friends at Washoe County K9 Partners for their continued invaluable support of our K9s and agency.” (All photos from the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office.) Just a Tease Announcement

We hope you are all having a great start to your new year! We have an exciting announcement to make! We will soon be introducing a new K9 team to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit. The new team is currently finishing up their training and certifications and then we will introduce you to them! In the meantime, we will be giving you a few “sneak peeks” of our new furry deputy. Exciting news for all of us! Drumroll please…🥁🥁….

Introducing K9 Otto!!

K9 Otto is the newest addition to the WCSO K9 team!! This handsome boy is partnered with Deputy Locke.

K9 Otto is a German Shepherd, born in Holland on 5-7-21. With this new addition, our Washoe County K9 unit is up to full strength with eight active K9 officers. Welcome to the team K9 Otto and Deputy Locke!

Welcome to WCSO’s new K9

Big news today! Our newest K9 is here! Welcome Brutus to the K9 unit, This handsome fella is a Czech Shepherd, born in Poland in October of 2020. Brutus is partnered with Deputy Beau Tittensor. We can’t wait to see what great things this pair will do!

Today, Brutus got to meet his Sheriff, Darin Balaam and get some pets from WCSO staff.
