Happy Thanksgiving!
We are so thankful for the support of all of you in our mission to provide needed equipment and training for our Washoe County K9 teams. Have a wonderful day!
We’d like to remind you that we have the K9 license plates available at the Nevada DMV. You can use these on any vehicle that uses a Nevada plate, including motorcycles. For more information, click here.

Meet & Greet at Scheels This Saturday!
Hey, K9 lovers! A few of our Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9s will be at the Scheels store at Legends on Saturday, November 16 to greet all the lovely people who want to meet them. Rumor has it our newest K9 Maggie will be there.
K9 Partners will be set up with some merchandise including shirts, mugs, and our 2025 calendar right off the presses. This is the first opportunity to get a copy. Come say hi and meet the dogs!
News 2 Video Helps Promote License Plate
Many thanks to Andi Cassinari and the News 2 team for giving our K9 License plates a boost. Thanks also to the Washoe County K9 unit for showing the dogs in action and talking about how valuable this training center will be to our community. We appreciate it so much.

Two Days Away…
from this year’s Barks and Badges event! It’s this Saturday, June 1st at Bartley Ranch in South Reno, Nevada! We’ll have some of our K9s and horses plus a lot of other Washoe County services on display. Several vendors will be displaying their wares and we will have food trucks! So, bring the family to look around, learn about the various services, and watch demonstrations. No entry fee to attend, but please leave your pets at home. Event runs from 10 am to 2 pm.
Please stop by the K9 Partners booth and say hi! We have 2024 Tee-shirts, K9 mugs, including the new ones and a few of the retired K9s, plus new souvenir license plates for sale. The plates for your vehicles are available from the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles. Hope to see y’all on Saturday!
K9 Automobile License Plates Are Available
We are thrilled to announce the K9 License Plates are now for sale through the Nevada DMV! This has been a long road and we’re so excited to see our great looking plate ready to ride on your car or truck or whatever vehicle you chose to show your support for the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office K9s.
As announced earlier, all proceeds from the sale of these specialty plates will go toward the building of a training facility in Reno. This building will help to improve the high quality skills of our K9s and others within the region.
To get your plate now or when you renew your plates, go to your local DMV and ask for the K9 Specialty Plate. It should be displayed on their wall. It will look like the photo above.

Hip Hip Hooray!! It’s Odin’s Birthday!! Odin turns 4 years old today! Please join us in wishing him a wonderful Day and lots of Birthday fun! 
Fun fact: Odin is one of FOUR January birthdays among our K9 teams. More on that later
K9 Kyago Retires
01/03/24- Today, K9 Kyago ended his service with the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office after almost 8 years as Deputy Dunham’s partner.
We are going to miss you, Kyago! But we are so happy to wish you a very happy retirement. You have earned a promotion to the position of “King of the Couch”! Such a Good Boy!

Today, Sheriff Balaam hosted a ceremony for the retirement of K9 Kyago after seven years of loyal service to the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office and our community.
In 2016, K9 Kyago was partnered with Deputy Dunham and completed his training at Vohne Liche Kennels in Indiana before joining the WCSO. Kyago served as a dual-purpose K9, trained in narcotics detection, subject apprehension, and tracking.
Kyago had a tremendous career serving in both the patrol division and on the Northern Nevada Interdiction Task Force alongside his partner, Deputy Dunham.
Kyago played a crucial role in removing millions of dollars worth of illicit narcotics from our streets and, with his social disposition, was always a crowd favorite at community events.
“Our K9s not only help to ensure the safety of our community, but they are beloved members of our office who bring our community together,” said Sheriff Balaam. “On behalf of the entire Sheriff’s Office, thank you for your dedicated service, Kyago! Enjoy your well-earned retirement with your family.”

Yesterday evening, our K9 teams were proud to be part of the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office‘s annual Shop with the Sheriff event! They had a great time meeting all the kids and helping out!
